Summer Start = Boat Work

Brad and I are back on the island, this time for a little over five (!) weeks. We started off our summer break with not much of a break -- we were on a mission to remove Splash's old decals, and then polish and wax the hull. At 33 years of age, the decals were chipped and faded and the hull was dull and tired. Over the course of just two and a half days, and with a lot of help from Eric and Cheryl, we managed to peel off the decals inch by inch, and then buff and polish every inch of the hull. It was hot and the work was not fun but wow, did it make a noticable improvement on Splash's overall appearance! After meticulously removing decals from three decades ago, we decided not to re-stripe the hull just yet and might opt instead for a boot stripe when we re-do our bottom paint in the fall.

During our two days of work in the marina we also got our barbecue cleaned up, organized and cleaned our deck lockers, inspected and re-painted the anchor chain and cleaned the anchor well, and stocked up on provisions for the next few weeks. PHEW!
